HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!

As we celebrate the 4th of July with our family and friends, we should take a moment to reflect on why we have the day off.

The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776, 233 years ago, by a small group of men who dedicated themselves to a higher purpose, an ideal they believed in so greatly, they signed their name to it - the ideal of individual LIBERTY granted to men NOT by their government, but by their Creator.

Those 56 men instantly became marked for death, traitors to the British Empire, the most powerful nation state in the world of that time.  As the Declaration states:  They pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to the cause of LIBERTY.

Pause this 4th of July between your beer and hamburger and fireworks, and think of these 56 brave men.  What were they willing to give up for LIBERTY:

• Twelve Signers had their homes burned to the ground. 
• Two lost sons serving in the Revolutionary Army.
• Two had sons captured while serving in the Revolutionary Army.
• Nine Signers themselves fought and died in the War.
• Five were captured by the British, tortured as traitors, and killed.

 What would we be willing to pledge and sacrifice for LIBERTY?  If we as a people forget the sacrifices and the trials of those who came before us, building what we have today, sacrificing for our Liberty, we have no right to look up from our complacency one day and act surprised that we are no longer a Free People.
